MicroLEDs, commonly having less than 30-µm-size of the mesa, are a promising light source for displays with various advantages, such as high efficiency, brightness, long life time (reliability), and etc. Based on the benefits, microLED displays are being ardently developed in the existing display applications (TV, signage, smart watch, and so on) and even in new field of the display such as extremely large and small display. In this presentation, we briefly introduce the microLED displays and its state-of-the-art trends. Furthermore, efforts (improvement of efficiency in less than 10-µm-size microLED, stacked microLEDs based on tunnel junction, mechanical lift-off, and integration of microLEDs on CMOS) in Korea Photonics Technology Institute (KOPTI) to contribute the development of the microLED display will be given.
