ㅁ초록:
Moiré materials have emerged as a versatile platform for engineering electronic band structures and exploring correlated quantum phenomena. By twisting or stacking atomically thin materials, one can create long-wavelength moiré patterns that strongly modify electron motion, leading to flat bands, magnetism, superconductivity, and other interaction-driven states. These systems are therefore attracting broad interest as a platform for designing quantum materials.
In this talk, I will discuss a theoretical study of graphene subject to a smooth moiré electrostatic potential generated by an insulating substrate. For sufficiently large moiré wavelengths, the system develops ultra-flat bands coexisting with a network of chiral one-dimensional conducting channels. This coexistence gives rise to unusual interaction effects involving spin and valley degrees of freedom, leading to a rich landscape of correlated electronic phases.
I will show how tuning the gate voltage can stabilize exotic correlated phases, including a non-coplanar state with intertwined magnetic and valley order. I will also discuss the distinct roles of quantum and classical fluctuations in shaping these phases. Finally, I will discuss twisted monolayer-bilayer graphene as a promising platform for realizing this physics experimentally.
