SKKU Global Research Centre is a dynamic new initiative at Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) dedicated to globalising SKKU’s research and academic networks in an engaging and inclusive way, creating opportunities for collaboration and innovation across borders. By breaking down academic boundaries and fostering partnerships abroad, the centre serves as a vibrant hub where ideas thrive and global impact grows.

One of SGRC’s flagship programmes is the international ‘match-up’ collaboration initiative, which pairs SKKU faculty with distinguished overseas researchers for high-impact joint projects. Through this innovative programme, the centre invites accomplished scholars from around the world to work with SKKU’s own academics, sparking fresh ideas and elevating research with diverse global perspectives.

In addition, SGRC hosts annual global research forums that showcase and strengthen SKKU’s international academic ties. For example, in 2024 the centre partnered with Wiley – a world-leading academic publisher – to co-host a major forum at SKKU that brought together over 100 research leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region. This event also welcomed editors of top scientific journals to our campus, underscoring SGRC’s commitment to hosting world-renowned experts and highlighting SKKU’s growing reputation as a global research hub. Building on this success, the centre plans to expand these forums in coming years, providing an inspiring platform for renowned thinkers, innovators, and journal editors to engage with our community.

SGRC is led by Professor and Associate Vice President, Il Jeon, a distinguished scientist and international research leader who brings a wealth of global experience[4]. Under Professor Jeon’s guidance, the centre operates as a fully funded SKKU initiative, exemplifying the university’s strategic commitment to connect with the world’s best minds. This strong support from SKKU’s leadership ensures that SGRC remains a welcoming and forward-looking environment where global collaboration and innovation can flourish.
