By developing and using biotechnological methods, we make insects, molecules, cells, organs or associated microorganisms usable for medicine, industrial biotechnology and the food and animal feed industry. Our main business and technology field historic is insect biotechnology. Thanks to their fantastic properties and abilities, insects colonize almost all habitats on earth. In the future, we humans can also benefit from the many survival strategies they have developed for this purpose. The lecture will include the introduction to the Fraunhofer Society, the largest European Research society dedicated to applied sciences, followed by introducing the four different departments natural products, food & feed improvement agents, biodiversity research and pests and vector insect control. A more detailed presentation of the pest and vector insect control department will complete the lecture.
